Trainee Stories
Our trainees are the heart and soul of LiPA. We have shown that exceptional consultant colleagues can emerge through alternative pathways that, all the while, respect and champion individuality and flexibility. We celebrate and value the contributions of doctors from all backgrounds, and it is our privilege to work alongside these talented young anaesthetists.
I preferentially chose the LiPA programme after anaesthetic core training due to a desire to have a greater level of control over my training both in content and location. It was my faith and confidence in the faculty to deliver this – from starting all the way to a successful portfolio pathway application – that drew me to LiPA specifically. The programme has allowed me to discuss my training on a personal level with individuals who know me. I have been able to build strong relationships both with the faculty and other LiPA trainees, many of whom I hope will be permanent colleagues of the future. The ability to discuss and structure upcoming placements not only around the curriculum but also around clinical interests and life events outside of work was – to me – hugely advantageous. It was the flexibility and feeling of more personalised training that drew me to the LiPA programme, it is the family of faculty and support I have received that means I haven’t looked back.

I highly recommend LiPA as a perfect platform for career growth. Joining LiPA was a game-changer for me. With over 20 years of anaesthesia practice behind me, I sought CESR recognition, and LiPA delivered beyond expectations. The dedicated faculty, the tailored structured approach, and the unwavering support not only propelled me through the CESR journey but also led to my appointment as a locum consultant during the process. LiPA truly stands out as a beacon of opportunity and advancement in our field.

“I think the CESR/LIPA rotation has been revolutionary not just for the trainees that have chosen to join but for our future staffing. It is clear that there are nowhere near enough training places to cater for the needs of our patients and providing an alternative to the traditional training process will contribute enormously. I truly feel that the bespoke, flexible experience offered by LIPA allows our doctors to reach their full potential and prepares them well for their future career”.

One of the standout features of LiPA is its remarkable flexibility. Whether you are a full-time professional, a parent like me juggling multiple responsibilities, coming from a different country and different health system or someone with a unique schedule, the programme’s adaptability ensures that learning remains accessible and convenient. The flexibility truly empowered me to tailor my learning experience to my individual circumstances, within an inclusive and supportive environment.
My journey with LiPA began when I was having my appraisal meeting with Dr Philippa Borra where we explored the route to achieving a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration. Since then, I have been part of this programme. The people behind this training program are nothing short of extraordinary. Approachability is a cornerstone of their philosophy. They are genuinely invested in the success of each participant. This accessibility has been instrumental in my learning journey, as it has made the entire experience more engaging and enjoyable.
Career progression is not just a buzzword in LiPA; it’s a tangible outcome. The rotations and ARCPs, coupled with personalised guidance, has paved the way for meaningful advancements in my career.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly endorse LiPA to anyone seeking a transformative and flexible learning experience. The combination of flexibility, approachability, work-life balance, and career progression opportunities sets it apart as a beacon of excellence in the realm of Anaesthesia training. My journey with this programme has been nothing short of inspiring, and I am grateful for the positive impact it has had on my personal and professional growth.
